Social media has become a major player in marketing. It was always going to happen. Business must go where its market is.
But just like there are a myriad of businesses to choose from, so are there a ton of social media networks.
Which one is the right one for you, and should you be using more than one?

These are usually the questions most business owners have, and they are right to question their strategy. After all, social media seems to be an ever-changing playing field.
To use a business analogy: the goal posts are always being moved. What was hot one week is not the next. And what platform works for one business can sign the death warrant for another.
Many newcomers to the social media arena are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work involved. How often have you heard someone explain that they’d love to get more involved with social media, but they just don’t understand what all the fuss about Twitter is?
The trick is to focus.
Bruce Lee once said, “Before I learned the art, a punch was just a punch, and a kick, just a kick. After I learned the art, a punch was no longer a punch, a kick, no longer a kick. Now that I understand the art, a punch is just a punch and a kick is just a kick.”
We need to focus on one platform at a time and analyse it for its strengths and weaknesses. Here’s three ways that you can get the most from your social media plan:
1) Schedule your social media posts. Just like using the WordPress Editorial plugin for your blog posts, you can similarly schedule posts using HooteSuite. It’s come a long way since it started and you can even turn it into a desktop app.
2) Repurpose good content. Always analyse what content gets the best interaction and repurpose it as blog posts or articles. You can even share links from posts you already created just like I did above.
3.) Analyse where your traffic comes from and spend more time on that platform. You don’t need to work hard for traffic from one social media platform just because someone else says it’s the next big thing. If it doesn’t bring you traffic, ditch it. Unless you are using it purely for recreational purposes! Water only the plants that flower.
