According to Harish Manwani, COO of Unilever, profit is not always the point and companies need to take a larger responsibility and play a more active role in serving the communities that sustained them.
He argues that businesses have to be more than just numbers on a balance sheet.
Many companies find it difficult to find the balance between ethics and the bottom line on a balance sheet. According to Manwani, “Small actions can make a big difference”, and businesses need to adopt business models that add not only economic value, but social value as well.
He says that businesses who have purpose and add social value, will also be contributing towards building and maintaining their company’s sustainability. The video is short, but the message is powerful.
